In order to make a career choice where you can be successfull and happy, you must know yourself.

  • First, you must know your specific interests. Which activities bring self-satisfaction ?

  • Examples : construction, reading, theatre, volunteer work, stock exchange, family activities, gardening, taking care of animals, etc.
  • Second, take an inventory of your personal features. For example, are you active, resourceful, curious, logical, imaginative, timid, comprehensive, a self starter, calm, sensitive, etc.?
  • Third, identify your personal values. What is most important to you ? Physical capacities, intellectual knowledge, original ideas, material comfort, security, stability, respect of the environment, etc.?
  • Fourth, what are your skills ? In general, do you learn and understand quickly? Do you have good communication skills ? Are you good with numbers ? Do you have manual dexterity ? Are you a good observer, etc.?

Once you have explored your personal characteristics, it is easier to make a career choice that best suits you. At this point you will be able to compare the labor market requirements with your personal profile. It is evident that you must take the time required to identify your personal characteristics. You can talk to family members, friends, a guidance counsellor or someone that you have confidence in.

Getting to know yourself gives you the opportunity to make the best career choice !!!
