Well yes! With equal qualifications, the candidate who knows himself well, will be better able to show his value as an employee.
Firstly, one must know one’s interests and aptitudes. It goes without saying that having aptitudes and a definite interest in a specific area, one's enthusiasm for this area will be more evident. Probabilities will also be increased that if I like my work and that, consequently, I will become a good employee.
Also, I must understand my strengths and weaknesses or if you prefer, my qualities and my faults. What are, for example, among all the qualities that I have, those that are the most important for the position that I want to occupy? What weakness may I mention without harming my candidacy? These questions require answers.
Furthermore, the qualifications that I have acquired are important but I must know them. If I do not have experience directly related to the area, I might have accomplished something else that used similar qualifications to those expected. I will then be in a position to state my ability to complete the required duties even if I do not have the specific experience.
Learning to know oneself may be very long. Yet, it is a very important element in looking for a job.
If you have doubts, imagine that an employer is asking you - What are your strengths? or else - What is your main weakness? - Will you be able to answer these questions? The CREP and the PYEM team is there to help you to find the answers!
