Thank you letter

15/01/2009 - Read 323 times
Once an interview is completed, it is important to take time to review and evaluate your performance.

What were your strong points and your weaknesses during the interview? What have you learned about the company? On what elements must you insist upon in this type of work?

All these elements can be useful in composing a thank you letter destined to the future employer. You should include your interests in the proposed job and your appreciation in having been selected for the interview. The simple fact that you took the time to reflect on the interview and write a letter acknowledging your appreciation may in certain circumstances set you apart from other potential candidates and sway an employer’s opinion in your favor. It is important to be vigilant in writing this letter. Always keep in mind that the letter is not meant to flatter the employer but indicate with professionalism, your appreciation of the time spent with you.

  • The thank you letter is one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of job hunting. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking it isn’t important.
  • A handwritten note is best, but a thoughtful email will suffice. And like your resume, your thank you letter should be customized to reflect the mood and content of the interview.
  • Remember:
    • Send the letter within 24 hours following the interview.
    • Highlight what was discussed in your interview and reiterate your qualifications and continuing interest.

Ms. Jennifer Newton
Director
Picabou Center
Campbell’s Bay, Québec J0X 1K0

Dear Ms. Newton:

Thank you for the opportunity to meet with you yesterday. I am very interested in the child-care position we discussed.

As I described during the interview, my child development classes, summer jobs, and recent volunteer work as a storybook reader at the Community Center have prepared me well for a Preschool Teaching position. I am especially interested in the field trip program you mentioned. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to that effort.

I enjoyed meeting you and your staff, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. If I can provide additional information, please call me at (819) 648-6549. Thank you again for your time.

Sincerely,

Dennis Hugues

Credit Technologies
Maple Street, Suite 500
Renfrew, Ontario J0W K7U

Dear Ms. Decaire:

Thank you for interviewing me at Credit Technologies. I was impressed with the company and the type of banking services the corporation provides.

Your comments gave me a good understanding of the business and your expectations for the attorney you are seeking. I am confident that my background and experience in banking law, along with my ability to analyze statutes and regulations in detail, could be useful to Credit Technologies.

If you were to offer me this position, I am confidant that I could provide services that would meet the high standards of your corporation.

I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Very truly yours,

Royce Reeves
