Did you leave your studies because you had too much difficulty or are you thinking about going back to school after quitting several years ago? If this is your case, going back to school may well appear difficult to you. However, one should note that several factors may influence your success in school and that it is up to you to place all chances on your side. Here are therefore some general approaches to be considered to increase your chances of success.
A first stage to be completed would be to identify all factors that are likely to be harmful to your apprenticeship in order to be able to then bring about positive changes.
According to Louis-Georges Desaulniers, career advisor, one can first look at what is going on with respect to the way one imagines school. For example, if you think that school is useless and that what one learns will never be used in every day life (harmful idea), there are good chances that you would not make all the necessary efforts and that you would not develop to your full potential.
A second factor to be considered is the behavior that is normal to someone. For example, a harmful behavior would be to always postpone what could be completed right away.
It is also important to examine what is going on in terms of your emotions. For example, are you someone who easily gets discouraged and put yourself down? If yes, it is possible to do what is necessary to have more confidence in yourself and believe that you are able to succeed.
Another factor to be explored is that of intellectual potential. For example, it may be that you have difficulty in expressing yourself and at finding the right words to say what you are thinking. In such a case, one must not believe that nothing can be done to change the situation. Several exercises may be made to further develop your potential but one must take the time to identify the points on which to work in order to then improve them.
Are you now someone who is always tired and who often lacks energy? In this case, work must be done with respect to your physical condition. When one is tired, it is quite rare that one wants to learn new things; one thinks more about finding one's bed!
Other factors may influence your school success. Do people, for example, who are around you support you in your decision to go back to school? Have you got access to adequate space (lighting, office) to carry on with your studies? Have you got the necessary material (e.g. dictionary) to assist you in studying?
Finally, as you can see, several factors must be considered to facilitate your success in school. The table hereafter summarizes these factors and provides examples of what can be harmful and of what appears more useful for success.

Therefore, after having identified the points you have to work on, it is now time for you to set small objectives that will aim at making you appreciate school more and that will better facilitate your success. To do this, one must not hesitate in finding support from people who are around you, be it in school, in the home or even here at the Pontiac Youth Employment Marketplace. One must not forget that if you want, you can, and that it is never too late to place all chances on your side.
