Did you know that there are different ways to compose your résumé? It is recommended that you elaborate your résumé depending on your needs, your situation and your goals.

1. The chronological résumé

Your education and experience are organized in chronological order, starting with the most recent.

Advantages: This type of résumé is easy to organize. Employers are familiar with this type of résumé. It demonstrates your progress and professional growth. If you have had the same job for several years, it will demonstrate stability.

Disadvantages: If you changed jobs often, this model of résumé will indicate instability. Every period of unemployment is obvious. This type of résumé does not emphasize on accomplishments. If you are seeking a career change, this type of résumé may question your objectives.

2. The functional résumé

Your accomplishments and professional history are organized by field of experience.

Advantages: If you have had several jobs (similar or not) that enabled you to develop different abilities and aptitudes, this type of résumé will bring out your achievements and skills. It will also bring out your strong points. With this type, you can emphasize on what you believe is important.

Disadvantages: It is longer and harder to prepare and you must modify it for every job. You must know exactly what the employer is looking for.

3. The mixed résumé

This type of résumé is a mix of the 2 types mentioned above. You have to combine your skills and your employment history.

Advantages: It immediately demonstrates your strong points. It is easy to modify and you can quickly adapt it to match various jobs. It emphasizes on your achievements and skills.

Disadvantages: Like the other types of résumés, it requires preparation.

4. Résumé by skills (see : COMPOSING YOUR RÉSUMÉ ACCORDING TO YOUR "SKILLS)
