Here is a list of questions and answers most often asked about the job application form.

   1. If we use a résumé, must we complete the job application form?

When the job application form is available, it is always better to complete it and attach it to your résumé. The job application form includes additional information useful and necessary for the employer at the time of his selection of candidates. Say to yourself that if the employer did not want you to complete the job application form, he would not provide any to you!!!

   2. Must we include our Social Insurance Number on the job application form?

The social insurance number is a very personal number. It is a number that you want kept confidential to avoid being the victim of fraud. In any case, the employer only needs that number when you are hired into his organization.

   3. What is the salary desired?

It is very important to properly answer this question because the employer may judge you on the basis on the salary mentioned or the salary you were previously paid. This question is a trick question; therefore, never include a precise answer. For example $10 an hour; rather, state that the salary desired is negotiable and that the previous salary was in accordance with the collective agreement or according to standards.

   4. When are you available for work?

Avoid using words such as "immediately" or "right away"; instead, write an exact date by specifying the day, month and year. It is important to write a date so that the employer knows exactly when you want to work.

   5. Have you other qualities or experience that would help you in fulfilling your duties if you get the position?

Your answers must be simple but complete. Try to adapt your answers to the kind of job wanted. And above all, do not forget to use your transferable abilities.

Completing the job application form is not as simple a task as people think. One must concentrate and properly answer each question.

One must not above all, write with spelling errors and always use the best handwriting you can.

There are many other important details to be considered when completing a job application form, therefore do not hesitate to communicate with an advisor (counsellor) who can provide personalized services.
